Currently, local colleges and universities serving the development of local society has become an inevitable trend of higher education development. Higher education and local society are helping each other. The systematic study on local colleges and universities serving the local social development can provide beneficial references for promoting the service.This paper consists of six parts.The first part introduces the research status at home and abroad, the significance of the research, related concepts, research objects and methods and technical approach.The second part makes primary analysises and study on the local colleges and universities serving the development of local society from the following five aspects:basic features of local colleges and universities; basic characteristics of local colleges and universities in the local social service; their own strengths and weaknesses; the motivation; and the basic ways.The third part, taking Ankang University as an example, analyzes the content and features of local colleges and universities in the local social services through investigation.Based on the above analysis, combined with experts’s study on such issues, part four mainly discusses the problems of local colleges and universities in the local social services from four perspectives:the local colleges and universities themselves, educational administrative departments, local governments and local enterprises.The fifth part puts forward some constructive strategies for local colleges and universities to serve the local social development effectively from the angles of local colleges and universities themselves, educational administrative departments, local governments and local enterprises.The sixth part is a conclusion.
