In Education Reforming, the importance of teaching material is self-evident. Therefore, how to improve geography textbook, to comply with the professional requirements of geography and education scholars, and can be accepted by the teachers and students,to achieve the teaching goals, promote the development and progress of geographical education, has become the focus of Geography Education research.In view of the importance of geography textbook, and the regional geography development, this study choose Taiwan and the mainland senior high school Geography textbooks, attempts to explore the differences between mainland and Taiwan high school Geography textbooks in content and structure, and combining with the current geography curriculum guideline, analysis Taiwan Nanyi publishing textbook and mainland people’s education pulishing textbook, from writing characteristics, similarities and differences, to analisis textbook improvement and Geography Education reforming and development.By documental analysis approach, comparative analysis approach, content analysis approach and so on, according to the study results from literatures review and analysis, the findings are summarized as follow:(1) Taiwan pay more attention to Geography Education.Taiwan’s textbook pay more attention to Regional Geography,and the proportion of world geography of Regional Geography is the highest parts in textbook.(2) In terms of content, both Taiwan’s textbook and China’s textbook use theme writing style to write the knowledge, but Taiwan’s textbook in accordance with the human geography before natural geography; China’s textbook version of the environment before humanity finally connected sequence.(3) In terms of text content, Taiwan’s textbook covers a wider range of knowledge, China’s textbook involved in greater depth of knowledge. Taiwan’s textbook given priority to narrative text, and harder to read. China’s textbook is specification and logical and easier to read.(4) In terms of image system, Taiwan’s textbook pay more attention to the images, especially the photos, but the image size is relatively small, it is also associated with the size of textbook. (5) In terms of activity system, China’s textbooks pay more attention to the activity system than Taiwan’s textbook. We chose to ignore this aection.According to the conclusions above, this study offers suggestion for future textbooks editing and further study.
