A Study On The Status Quo Of College Students' Religious Belief And Its Psychological Formation Mechanism

In recent years, with the rapid development of economy and the globalization of culture, college students’group appears a number of "catechumen" and believers are still rising. However, Young college students are an essential part of national development, and a necessary human resource to realize the national rejuvenation. Their religious status not only decides the growth of themselves, but also concerns about the rise and fall of socialist cause. Therefore, it is very important to have an intensive study of college students’religious.This research combines quantitative with qualitative research method to have a greater depth and breadth of exploring college students’religious problems in Mid-Jiangsu. In the quantitative research, with the help of questionnaires among500students in Yangzhou University, Nantong University and part of vocational colleges in Nantong, the author recycle481effective copies in order to describe the current situation of college students’ religious belief in the middle region of Jiangsu province. Through the collation and analysis of the quantitative research, we can find:(1) In general, the religious students in Mid-Jiangsu have a certain proportion, but the faith is short of some depth. The way they get religious knowledge is diverse, and affected by the interpersonal relationship. Students’ education and families’ attitude toward to religion will have a significant effects on the religious’selectivity.(2) In the religious cognition, students all have a basic but weak knowledge in religion. They present great individual differences on religious nature. Also, they cannot treat religious function dialectically and look at the issue is one-sided.(3) In the students’ attitude and emotion to region, most people hold a positive attitude, but they affected by external environment easily and cannot be stand the test.(4) In the practice of religion, the majority of students’ frequency to participate religious activities is very low, substantive participation is less.(5) In the understanding of the atheism education, we can see the atheism education in colleges is very lack, most students don’t think it is necessary to set up that course. Campus culture environment is pure, but it is still needs to be strengthened.(6) In the understanding of the superstition and heresy, there are some students still lack the cognition of the distinction between them, and will confuse the boundary easily.In the part of qualitative research, the author sees through individual interview to explore the six Yangzhou University students’ psychological mechanism of religious belief. With the qualitative analysis, we can conclude that college students’ religious belief is based on need; if their needs are not met can cause students to produce drive. Then under the effect of external factor and emotion will finally generate students’religious motivation. Furthermore, after the maintaining of will action, religious behavior appears. Finally, the student become a religionist on account of grace appear, an idea of sublimation, personality’s changing and the improvement of social relationship strengthening their religious behavior.Based on this, the author put forward some strategies:Strengthening the ideological education and make sure the Marxism is the direction of mainstream ideology education in college. Strengthen scientific atheism education, and guide students to have a correct understanding of religion. Put an end to the missionizing in campus, then set up an effective campus management mechanism. Strengthen humanistic care, and focus on college students’ psychological needs actively. Strengthen the school mental health education, help students to solve problems timely.
