Instructional directives, as an important part of teacher talk, endow with effective teaching function and play an essential role in guiding students’task in English learning class. Teachers use instructional directives to discipline students’ behavior and explain teaching content and procedures which are connected with relevant tasks and activities. Effective instructional directives can not only be used to organize teaching and learning activities, but also provide communication opportunities in real language context, which have positive impact on students’ language acquisition. So if teachers make use of instructional directives accordingly and skillfully, these instructions can help students finish their tasks accurately and largely improve the teaching and learning efficiency. So that students will acquire target language better through various kinds of interactive trainings in the English class. The study takes speech act theory, comprehensible input hypothesis and mediator theory as its theoretical foundation, aims at gaining the concrete materials which reflect the usage of instructional directives in primary school through observation and making records and trying to figure out the characteristics of linguistics, formation and pragmatics of instructional directives used in English classes in primary school by categorizing and analyzing relevant statistics. In order to gather the materials which exhibit ideas from users and learners themselves, the study also designs surveys whose purposes are to get a general understanding of expectations and attitudes toward instructional directives from teachers and students at random.Based on the relevant findings of predecessors, this study finds some problems existed in the real teaching situation:the overuse of comprehension and verification, teachers largely depend on using PPT to present the instructional directives, the speed of expressing orders is too quick and so on by observation, conducting surveys and analysis and compare of the material gathered. In order to solve these questions, this study also puts forward some suggestions including the form of instructional directives should be brief and easy to understand and teachers should accurately evaluate the real level of their students. So after analysis and generalization, the purposes of this study are to improve the effectiveness of using instructional directives to ensure English classes in primary schools can be efficient and successful so that students can better acquire the target language.
