As an important code of ethics in China, filial piety has always been respected and observedby Chinese people, meanwhile it is a vital research subject in cultural social psychology. Indifferent period of history, the connotation and cognitive structure of filial piety had differentchanges. For the influencing factors of filial piety, numerous studies have been conducted fromboth the subjective and objective point of view. However, the study that investigating the effectsof gender differences of children to individual filial piety has not been found. The relationshiptheory advocates that make the people of “multiple relations” and “specific relations” as the unitof analysis in social psychology. According to the theory and combined with the family, thespecific environment the filial piety existing, it is very easy to find the body of filial piety, themiddle-aged people, which is the backbone of the house, not only is children of their parents, butalso is the parents of their children. Based on the above understanding, this study mainly focusedon exploring the impact of gender differences to their filial piety, which based on the existing“feedback mode” in China. From the perspective of the relationship theory, we make the middle-aged people who is in the dual parent-child relationship as the research subject. Meanwhile, wemake the “Zhang-wa Priming” to refer the different effects in caring for their parents brought byboys or girls which based on the Chinese traditional culture. The words “zhang” and “wa” arefrom the phrases “congratulations on nong zhang” and “congratulations on nong wa” in China,which respectively meant the birth of a boy and a girl.The previous research about the historical evolution, psychology connotation, influencingfactors, research methods of filial piety and priming effect was combed, concluded andsummarized through the theoretical part of this paper study.Three parts were divided in this study: the first one explored the effects of differentoffspring’s gender to the difference of individual exons filial behavior by studying the middle-aged people’s emotion of filial piety, the degree of intimacy, the resource allocation and theorder of importance to parents and parents in law; the second one, by EAST program, exploredthe middle-aged people’s implicit attitude to different cognate words, thus to help us tounderstand the effects of offspring’s gender to people’s implicit filial differences; the third one,by priming experiment, explored the filial differences of college students who were offereddifferent gender priming, which could eliminate the influence of social desirability and otherinterfering factors.Through above studies, we can draw the conclusions as follows:(1) The one who only has daughter, show more positive evaluate to maternal culturalsystem than the patriarchal cultural system. (2) The one who only has son, allocate more resources to the patriarchal cultural system,than the maternal cultural system.(3) The one whose gender is different from offspring’s gives more resources to the spouseparents than the one different.(4) The one whose gender is consistent with the offspring’s shows more positive evaluateand has a higher level of intimacy than the one different.
