For painters, the composition is important for its combination of color and image, so thattheir emotions and themes can be expressed strongly. As the central part of drawing, thecomposition has been paid much attention in artistic fields. However, previous studies ofchildren’s drawing were mostly from the view of psychological or the individual cognitivedevelopment, drawing composition characteristics was neglected. In this paper, with thefoundation of related research and theories of drawing compositions, composition style,embodiment in space, and colors composition are decided to be studied by several ways, suchas referring to literatures, observations, interviews and so on. After the study, thecomposition’s characteristics of different class children among3-5year old are summed up.To ensure the reliability of the experiment, this study selects two groups of subjects, while thesecond group is for verifying the analysis.It is found that there are mainly nine types of children’s drawing composition style,named as the untidy, the vertical, the paratactic, the stepped, the scattered-point, thecenter–style, the full composition, the symmetrical and the unattached. The first five typeswill appear step by step with children’s development, while the center–style, the fullcomposition and the symmetrical are founded in all classes. In addition, the bottom classchildren tend to be the untidy and the vertical, the middle class children tend to be the vertical,the paratactic, and the stepped, while the top class children mostly like to be the paratactic andthe stepped. It is also can be found that children’s capacity gain with their age in the aspect ofspace composition. They get clearer and clearer while expressing the depth of space and areadividing. At last, in the aspect of color compositions, most of the bottom class children get nopurposes, they try using all the four color forms. The middle and the top class children focuson the approximate color compositions and the contrastive color compositions, but the topclass children use the contrastive color compositions more skilled. Besides, all the childrenprefer to use warm colors.Finally, based on this study, some suggestions are put forward for teaching the drawingcompositions of different age’s children.
