With the continuous implementation and improvement of new class reform, thehigh school geography education concentrate more on the courses closely related tostudents’ production and life, for example, the local geography resources extending tolife. Suburban areas, located in a special place, with their own economic developmentpattern and the low degree of attention to local geography resources from EducationAuthority, show less satisfactory application of the local geography resources comparedwith schools of the same level in urban areas.This essay first clarifies the significance of researching local geographicalresources in suburbs: for one thing, this will do good to the application of the localgeography resources, and for another, it will also help promote the teachers’professional quality. Then this essay will try to interpret the feasibility of thisapplication. The author states the availability of local geographical resources applicationto high school geography education, and analyses the characteristics of the localgeographical resources in suburban areas.Taking Sujiatun District as an example, the author comes to the conclusion that insuburban areas there is a variety of local geographical resources with seriousenvironmental problems.The author finds out the problems in local geographical resources applicationthrough questionnaires. Based on the previous conclusion as well as by interviewingteachers and students, the author proposes some principles in this kind of application,which are the principle of economy, the principle of selection, the principle ofcooperation, the principle of guidance and the principle of local conditions, andproposes some strategies as well in terms of education authorities, schools and teachers,providing some guidance for teachers in suburban areas on the application of localgeographical resources and making positive exploration and beneficial trials aboutapplication of this kind.
