Reading and writing are important part of English language teaching. Reading skill is the main approach of getting message while writing is the important form of the output of message which is the expression of students’all-round ability in English. So reading and writing should be combined closely. But in teaching reality, due to the wrong knowledge of the relationship between reading and writing, teachers tend to separate reading practice from writing practice which often leads to the low efficiency of both teaching and learning. Therefore, how to improve English reading and writing ability by combining reading and writing is urgent and necessary to English teachers.."Lesson study" is a new kind of action research which is more focused on classroom teaching. In lesson study a group of teachers design lesson plans, observe the teaching process, analyze and solve the teaching problems to perfect one or a series of teaching process. Aiming at improving senior students’English reading and writing ability, the present research tries to apply the concept and procedure of lesson study to English reading teaching in Seniorl, helping students learn how to improve their writing ability through reading. Through data collection and analysis, we find that the application of lesson study in reading and writing teaching has achieved some results:there are positive changes in students’attitude to reading and their strategies used in reading; and their writing level has been improved. What is more, our lesson-study activities have proved to be effective in promoting the teacher growth; we have achieved our own professional development by cooperating with each other:jointly designing lessons; observing each other’class; and attending group discussion to improve original teaching plans...
