A Study On The Belief Status Of College Students

Since the all-round implementation of the reform and opening-up policy inChina, the planned economy system has gradually been replaced by the marketeconomic system, the structures of social organizations has fluctuated andtransformed rapidly, and the traditional values have suffered from the impacts ofvarious aspects. Under the extremely open multi-cultural background in today’sChina, contemporary college students have been impacted heavily in spirits whenfaced with the complicated and volatile social situations and the multi-collisions ofvalues and concepts. On the positive aspect, as required by the social main body,college students have been optimistic and brave enough to face family, society andlife; on the negative side, in the process of social transformation, the status of theirbeliefs has changed, posing some problems in the process of finding their own valuesin different extent.This paper first describes the research background in which different culturescollide with each other at the period of social transition and economic transformation,and since the reform and opening up. Combining with the review of experts andscholars at home and abroad, it points out that it’s urgent to study the current status ofbeliefs among college students. Based on the study of the basic theory of the beliefsof college students, this paper discusses the nature and value meaning of belief. At thesame time, considering the particularity of the college students, it defines the conceptof college students’ beliefs. Combining with social hierarchy, it also divides thehierarchy and focus of college students’ beliefs studied in this paper.Based on the questionnaire survey of college students in Yunnan University ofFinance and Economics, and combined with the investigation and research of avariety of experts and scholars on college students’ beliefs, the paper concludes theuniversality and regularity of beliefs among college students, and points out that thefeatures of contemporary college students beliefs of "high degree of attention to thebeliefs, low focus of beliefs; the trend of diversified development, the coexistence ofpositive beliefs and negative beliefs; emphasis on pragmatism of value judgment andplasticity”. Besides, it also analyzes the reasons of the focus deviation of collegestudents’ beliefs, and provides reasons from the aspects of social transformation, market economy, Chinese traditional culture and college students’ own quality and soon. Then it discusses about the ideal hierarchy and focus of college students’ beliefs,and comes to the conclusion that the belief system of "political belief as thefundamental belief" is the requirement of the socialist core value system, therequirement of path confidence, theory confidence, and system confidence, and therequirement of education policy themes. Finally, it gives comprehensive suggestionson how to improve the weak parts in political beliefs and how to build an ideal beliefsystem among college students.
