The 20th century is the time for China transform from a traditional society to a modern society. From the late 19th century, as for how to start China's modernization, generations of Chinese had put forth their proposals. Liang Shuming, a Confucian, had designed his draft for China's modernization called Chinese village development campaign.Liang took this campaign in Zouping County of Shandong Province with other confucian scholars. He wanted to revive Chinese Confucianism in China's village, which he tought would push China to the way of modernization. In the rural area, he taught the villagers language, math, Confucianism and other courses to improve their live capabilities; he wanted to build up a cooperative society in Zouping, and started many cooperative organizations; he also with the help of upper government officers, reformed Zouping local government, left more power to the civil society. However, his campaign failed in front of the anti-Japanese war. In the outer and inner contradictions inflicted in China, just the way of relaying on education and culture to drive China's modernization is far from right; the only way should come with the revolution for old social system.
