The new senior geography curriculum standard advocates such learning theories and styles named as "independence, cooperation, and exploration". However, in the classroom, the common teaching strategies are group discussion, which has no effect without the cooperation between the teacher and students. The study of relationship between teachers' teaching strategies and students' learning effect has both the theoretical and realistic significance.A questionnaire was collected data from 290 senior students in 8 classes of same grade in Beijing No.15 Senior High School. The main research questions were divided into two parts. The first part is to investigate senior students' attitude towards class discussion and the actual situation of class discussion in their geography classroom. The second part is the effect on the students of group discussion. The results were found that:1.The group discussion is based on interest, guaranteed by participation and aimed at effectiveness.2. Group questioning technique is the key factor for arousing the students' interest.3. Instructive evaluation technique is an important step in improving the learning effect.4. The depth of the participation needs to raise the coordination of all parts.Learning effects have significantly positive correlation with the teacher's organizing technique. It is recommended that senior teachers try to improve their teaching technique by adopting measures, such as effective group discussion, questioning and evaluation so as to help the students to get the best learning outcome.
