Function is one of the main important points in high school mathematics. The concepts and methods of functions are not only throughout the whole process in algebra but also are applied in the solid geometry and analytic geometry. The importance of function can be seen in its deepness and wide application, therefore, a thorough understanding of the function concept is the basis of using it to solve problems. While the function application problems are the practical use of functions in realistic situations.With the deepening of the new curriculum criteria implementation, application problems have become one of the hot points in college entrance examination, and the function problems are particularly important. The application problems have wide background issues and realistic, but students often get low scores. Because these problems demands the understanding of the interrelated knowledge and they are highly synthesized, the students are afraid of solving such problems and they have some understanding obstacles. Based on the above, with the research methods such as questionnaires, tests and interviews, this study investigated and analyzed the understanding obstacles of solving function application problems for the grade 10 students in the high school.一,This study mainly focuses on these questions:1.The interests, attitudes, confidence, and the current status when the grade 10 and12 students learn function application problems are studied, which is the basis for the further research.1,The main obstacles of the students when they understand some kinds of function application problems.2,Some instructional strategies are provided.二,The study concludes that such obstacles exist:1 Cognition obstacles,including:①Long sentences;②Unfamiliar with the problem background; ③Confuse the subject definitions;④It's difficult to set up the mathematical model;⑤They don't define the domain correctly;⑥Abstract languages;⑦They don't have solid basic knowledge and skills.2,Emotional obstacles。三,Such suggestions are provided:1,Inspire the students the intention to"meaningful study", erase their mind obstacles.2,Enhance reading and understanding.3,Enhance the instruction of function concept.4,Focus on the application of mathematics model method, improve the students'capability of modeling.5,Focus on their mathematics communication.6,Improve their calculation capability, focus on the correctness.
