Diaspora The Orphans Research

Orphans, is a special group of children, their living condition and physiological situation are the hot topic among the public. At present, the number of orphans in China is more than 57 million, almost accounting for 5% of the total population. Without the timely and comprehensive help form the outside, their physiological, safety, social, esteem, self-actualization needs may not be met as they lost their parents earlier. According to the social welfare theory, as a legitimate national citizen, the orphans who live with their relatives have the right to get some assistance and support from the government, relatives and the non-profit organization (NGO). In practice, the needs of them in food, housing, transportation, education, medicine and other areas are also supplied by those three parties in China. However, the current situation is not optimistic as we thought; it is difficult to build up the rescue system which can provide the enough assistance and support for the orphans who live with their relatives.Based on professional interest, social responsibility and fist-hand materials, this paper analyses the reason, character and difficulty of the orphans who live with their relatives. I interviewed the grass-root workers who carried the rescue policy, the relatives who frosted the orphans, the chief man of NGO, and some orphans face to face in Inner Mongolia and Zhejiang. According to the interview, I get some useful first-hand materials and other objective understanding of this party. In this thesis, I analysis the material and information from the interview deeply at first, and then focus on the discussion of the character, reason, rescue quo-situation of orphans who live with their relatives, and on this basis, find out the shortcoming of current measures in further. At last, I bring out the proposal that government, relatives and NGO should make good use of their own advantages, and cooperate together to solve this problem. And I also attempted to give some specific countermeasures, such as establishing the mechanism to encourage and supervise the relative who foster the orphan, building up the system to provide the psychological relief for orphans. In all, the reason I write this paper is to show the real living and psychological condition of the orphan who live with their relatives, and while stimulate more attention and discussion on this problem.
