The focus of thesis is on the economic sanctions used by the U.S. during the post-cold war period. In the four chapters, the thesis can be divided into two parts generally. The first part is the theory basis, and the second part is the policy analysis.Though the U.S. implemented a series of unilateral economic sanctions, they have the common characters as those bilateral or multilateral international economic sanctions. In the first part, the introduction part and theory part, we have summarized the studies of Chinese scholars and those abroad. The topic of the thesis is the American unilateral economic sanctions, so in the second chapter, we take some time to have a deep study on the United States. To some respect, most of the economic sanctions can never shake off the influence of the United States. But in fact, the U.S. economic sanctions are facing many criticism and challenge worldwide. So they are making some changes in the economic sanctions. In history, most of the U.S sanctions were imposed on the developing countries. Through our study, we found these sanctions have great influence on the economic development of these countries. In the last part of our thesis, our attention is paid to the impact of the U.S. sanctions on the economy development of our China. It is very important for us to have a further and detail study on the risks of economic sanctions we may be facing in the future, for we must realize the problems in the current economy and do our best to solve them.
