Japan's Post-war Constitutional Reform Movements And Political Direction

Japan Constitution is also called as the Peace Constitution. It is the outcome of the reform for the purpose of demilitarization and democratization, which the United States made for Japan after the World War II. It is made of the national fundamental law form to confirm and consolidate the ultimate outcome of this reform. Japan Constitution established the economic statehood and unarmed neutrality model of development so that Japan achieved spectacular economic miracle after war. However, the Japanese right-wing forces have waged several Constitution-amending campaigns to break the constraints and restrictions of Japanese military applications and development since the Constitution was promulgated. So far, although they did not reach an explicit constitutional sinister purpose, they have made many facts, contrary to constitutional principles, and wantonly distorted interpretation of the Constitution ,and the expansion of outlying legislation elevated Constitution articles ,which all devoured constitution pacifist soul. The Constitution brought peace, development and prosperity to Japan, but has suffered the fate of being amended,why? In order to answer this question I wrote this thesis, which made of four parts. They are the birth and mengming of Japan Constitution, the process and stages of constitution-amending, the cause of the movement why it took place one after anther and the political direction of Japan.Part I: the birth and meaning of Japan Constitution. This part mainly described the specific historical background of Constitution, the core content of the Constitution and their characteristics, the important meaning made by the Constitution in and out country.Part II: The process and stage of constitution-amending campaigns. In the order of time, I stated thel950s, the 1980s, 1990s and the 2005's constitution-amending movement after the promulgation and implementation of Japan Constitution with a view to sort out the thought and features of each stage of development to for next part.The third part: The cause why Japanese constitution-amending campaign took place one after anther. This is the focus of the article. This part exploreted and excavated the cause from history, domestic or international and subjective factors of the people who wanted to amend Constitution.
