Several merger storms has occurred during the economic development of 20th century, each of that has greatly propelled the development of the world economy. Merger and recombination play such a important role in optimizing capital, stimulating productivity and increasing efficiency that it has become a very useful enterprise developing strategy. At the turn of the century, the fifth merging tidal wave has been shocking the whole economy around the world with banking merging being the core, and what is the direction of China's banking sector? After carefully thinking, the author puts forward some countermeasures to the inevitable question. This paper covers three parts and the clue of it is how to upgrade the competitive power of the domestic banking. First, this paper researches the common disciplines and international experiences of merging behavior of world finance from the dimensions of both theoretical and practical perspectives. The essential motives of merger are to achieve the maximization of profit in theory. On the basis of this, the author analyzes the merger of international finance by means of positive analysis, and draws some conclusions: Within the Globalization of Economy, the external reasons of merger of international banking were the integration of international finance market, the liberalization of finance and the relaxation of government regulation. And the internal one was the pursuit of the maximization of profit. Within this scenario, the merger of international banking will going on and appearing some trends which are taken as a mirror for the direction of domestic banking. In addition, the author also analyzes the negative effects of the merger of international banking.Second, the author discusses the necessity and feasibility of merger and recombination of domestic banking. The author thinks that China's entry into the WTO is a rational choice against the background of the Globalization of Economy. With the speeding up of the progress of China's entry into the WTO, it is an inevitable trend for Chinese banking to be further open to the outside world. The competitive power of domestic banking lags far behind foreign counterparts' in most fields. So, a merging and recombination is needed to relieve the pressure of competition and propel the development of domestic merchant bank. Then, the author discusses the feasibility of merger and recombination of domestic banking, which conforms to reality of China. Finally, the author thinks merger and recombination is the rational option to upgrade the competitive power of China's banking, then gives some proposal to sharpen it.
