In the drastic competitive market economy, some companies gain and others lose, some succeed and others fail in exactly the same circumstances. Why? This fact shows clearly that main sources of competitive advantages of a firm exist really inside the firm itself. We have found that the key to success is core competence. As C.K.Prahalad & Gary.Hamel described, core competence is communication, involvement, and commitment to works across organizational boundaries, and should be difficult for competitors to imitate. It is the source of sustained competitive advantages for the firm over its rivals. It can be viewed as a pool of experience, knowledge, and skills etc. This thesis discusses how the theory of core competence has developed, what the concept of core competence is, and how we can evaluate core competence of the high-tech enterprises in the field of strategic management. Consequently, a framework is proposed for the purpose to construct core competence of the firms systematically. Finally, some cases of high-tech enterprises' core competencies are analyzed. In this thesis, we don't abandon the traditional method of industry structure analysis, and we pay more attention to intrinsic factor analysis. This thesis is a kind of methodology, which provides a method of how to recognize, evaluate, constitute and maintain core competence of high-tech enterprises.
