A Study On The Localization Of Marxism In Laos

In the 1930 s, the light of international communist movement shone upon Laos, and brought new blood to Laos’ liberation movements. After then, through several decades of hard and bitter struggle, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic(Lao PDR) was finally established, and people have become the masters of the new country. During the process of socialist revolution and construction, the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party(LPRP) has made significant achievements through the experience summed up from practice, and is guiding the renovation cause by combining Marxism with the actual situation of Laos. Now, Laos has turned itself from one of the underdeveloped countries into an emerging country in Southeast Asia, and the GDP per capita of Laos has reached 1970 US dollars in 2015. Theoretically speaking, though Laos has not officially put forward the idea of the Localization of Marxism, the LPRP has made many beneficial theoretical explorations by combining Marxism with the actual situation, and has initially formed several theoretical viewpoints with Lao characteristics that can be summed up in four parts: First, the cognition of Laos’ stage of development as the primary stage of the transition period to Socialism; Second, the statement of six basic principles of Socialism of Laos and the renovation with principles; Third, the theoretical summary of the construction of market economy with the socialist orientation of Laos; Fourth, the primary exploration of the construction of the LPRP itself.This thesis uses basic principles and methods of Marxism to illustrate the Localization of Marxism in Laos in two dimensions. One is that, from the historical dimension, the spread and development of Marxism in Laos will be illustrated; the other is that some theoretical exploration and summaries of practice since Laos’ reform and renovation will be categorized and analyzed. Through the study it can be inferred that, the Localization of Marxism plays a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of Laos. Laos has made significant achievements in its socialist renovation, however, there are some shortcomings and challenges in the path of the development of Socialism in Laos. Anyway, the achievements from the socialist renovation and the exploration of Localization of Marxism in Laos is worthy of reference for other Socialist countries, especially for the construction of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and the Sinicization of Marxism.
