A Study On The Testimony Of The Court In Tokyo

After Japan stepped on the track of imperialism, it continued to launch aggressive wars. China was one of the biggest victims. Many electric power industries in Shanghai, such as Pudong Electric Co.Ltd, were taken controlled by Japanese forces. This paper aims to use the historical data to introduce Pudong Electric Company and use the testimony to confirm the incurred losses of Pudong Electric Co.Ltd during the war.Shoumin Tong, also known as Chuanzhong, borned in Qianmentang Xixiang Jiading (now belong to Shanghai) Jiangsu province. He was the important witness in the Tokyo trial. At his trial, he provided concrete evidence which could prove that Japan had plundered Shanghai’s electric power industry. He was well educated and held high-level posts in Pudong Electric Company. He witnessed all the stages of the company, from establish to gradually develop and then suffer from disaster. With very high value, Shoumin Tong’s testimony provided a basis material for us to research that history and also had great realistic meaning and legal significance.With electrical and management professional background, Shoumin Tong was well educated and strict with himself. In 1919, Pudong Electric Company was founded, as a model of Pudong national industry. In 1936, the company was in the boom period. The power lines, supply areas and total capacity of this company all increased steadily.Assigned by the Chinese government, Shoumin Tong expounded the huge loss of the Pudong Electric Company, when he was in the Tokyo court. He exposed the great losses of the Pudong Electric Company after the invasion, including the interruption of supply, compensation for the losses and the destruction of its power lines, electric equipment and power supply. Beyond that, Shoumin Tong also exposed the Japanese Central China hydropower company’s control management of Central China’s electric industries and fully disclosed the truth that this company took control of the Pudong Electric Company and grabbed a lot from it.Shoumin Tong’s testimony was the hard evidence of the Japan’s invasion. As the only national entrepreneur of China, he revealed the truth of the invasion and Japan’s loot of Shanghai electric power industry. His testimony has important significance both in reality and history.
