| The birth of Marxism is a wonder in the history of human thought. As a scientific theory, Marxism reveals the objective rules in the development of human society, and suggests the two historical certainties that capitalism is doomed to annihilation and that socialism is destined to replace capitalism, thereby proclaiming for the proletariats their historical mission in the great revolution. Marxism, as the world view of the working class, equips them with ideological weapon to perceive and transform the world, and provides for them guideline to fulfill the liberation of entire human race. Therefore, Marxism, as a scientific theory, is of general truth; as the world view of the working class, is of spiritual value. Marxism guides people ceaselessly to explore truth and create value, and is a dialectic unity of general truth and spiritual value. The general truth of Marxism lies in its proposition of basing everything on the fact, seeking truth from the fact, binding theory with practicality, and taking practice as the mere yardstick by which truth is verified. The spiritual value of Marxism bodies itself forth in its providing ideological weapon to perceive and transform the world, its pointing out the correct direction and path for the proletariats to achieve human liberation. The general truth of Marxism is the prerequisite and basis of its spiritual value, and the latter the purpose and end result of the former. Not just does Marxism stress correct explanation of the world, but through providing the correct world for humankind it also enables them to involve themselves in the shaping of the real world to transform the world and satisfy the needs of themselves, thereby materializing its value. In this sense, the general truth and the spiritual value of Marxism are dialectically united; the unity is based on practice. The dialectical unity of Marxist truth and value can also be studied further in the framework of Marxism. It is the logical development for the scientific theoretical system of Marxism, and, meanwhile, the radical requirement of socialistic practice for Marxism. This can be verified by two historical achievements made by practicing Marxism in China, and by building socialism with Chinese characteristics. Our perception of this can also be deepened in the process. |
