Tibet which is surrounded by the Himalayas is famous as "the Roof of the World".Its unique geography and culture has attracted more and more attention. The towering snow-capped mountains, rolling rivers, vast prairie, lush forests, tranquil blue sky, purple-red Tibetan houses and temples, wind-dancing colorful prayer flags, smell of buttered tea and kowtowing pious believers constitute beautiful pieces of snow-covered plateau landscapes, they attract millions of people toward the "pure land" in their heart. Hospitable Tibetan people are good at singing and dancing, they have deep faith of Tibetan Buddhism. These make Tibetan music have its unique artistic charm and rich style.The development of modern Chinese music is not only an extension of traditional Chinese music, but also a performance of Chinese and Western cultural exchange between two kinds of music. " Tibet Sketch " is the first attempt on the piano with Tibet theme, which was composed by Cui Bingyuan in 1980s. The artistic charm of Tibetan music becomes clearer because the perfect combination of rhythm with Tibetan characteristic and piano tones.Piano Suite "Tibet Sketch" is the main object of study in this thesis. The thesis firstly describes the cultural environments of Tibetan music; summarize the kinds and styles of Tibetan folk songs, religious music and folk dances; and brief the creative background and composer of "Tibet Sketch", in order to provide a foundation for the music analysis. Then the author makes a detailed music analysis in combination with the musical structure and has a detailed study of five aspects, including the grasp of rubato music, the "singing" of theme melody, the performance of characteristic rhythm, the unique acoustics of the snow-covered plateau, the use of pedal. It shows us the unique charm and style of Tibetan music when it performance on piano. It also helps the performers of "Tibet Sketch" to grasp its musical content and provides advice and guidance for the understanding of Tibet music art and humanities content.
