Oil painting and photography are both visual arts. Their expression and processing of color have many similarities and differences, and show some interaction too. Their color effect depends on knowledge and understanding of the relationship between light and color. From the static characteristics firstly,this paper makes several comparisons between oil painting color and photography color, which include their generation mechanism, visual effects and creative techniques. And then,by analysis method dynamically, it compares the characteristics and status in various historical periods, as well as the process of learning and influence from each other. For this, this paper explores the essence of oil painting color, firstly from its basic theories, and the resource of text. Through the analysis of specific painters and their works in pre-photographic era, it gets the causes of them. Then, it analyzes the interactive relationship between oil painting color and photography color in image age. Finally, it studies the creation thoughts of some contemporary painters, in order to quest the possible trend of oil painting color, which is affected by the impact of photography color potentially.Because its characteristics, oil painting color shows more splendid and comprehensive color relations. That is not only the relationship between brightness, but also saturation, hue, and even the relationship between warm and cold feeling integrated. By the technology limit, the creative of photography color in the establishment of these relations, have a freedom smaller than the canvas color. There are many similarities between their generation mechanisms. But the painting has more subjective expressional characteristics inherent. Painters use the way of contrast to make up the deficiencies of relationship between light and color. In the pre-photographic era, affected by the lighting mode of classical painting, results the effect of large light ratio and color faded. After the birth of photography, its color became mature gradually in imitation of the painting, and established its own artistic characteristics as the technology developed. And painting color, affected from photography color, pursue more diversity of artistic effects, to further strengthen its expression advantages, thus showing a more subjective color and color differential controlling. This is the main direction of oil painting color creation in the image age.
