Shanxi xingdusi that located in northern of Shanxi Province in Ming Dynasty was the military tube administrative units. Because of its location was in the north-west of Beijing. It was suffer the Mongolian tribes south looting. So its military-strategic position was very important. The Ming central and local government paid much attention to it. This article selected Shanxi xingdusi of Ming Dynasty as the research object. In order to restore or reappear its military establishment and military management, and further explore its position and role in the northern frontier protection.This article included three parts:introduction, body, refletion. The introduction mainly recommended the exordium origins, significance of research topics, research status, research ideas and methods. The research about the dusi institution of Ming Dynasty was too much. But based on the collection, collation of information in context. The research was focus on macroscopic sides of the dusi institution or specific regional Wei suo. There was little research about Provincial-level military institutions Secretary dusi or xingdusi. Because of the significance military-strategic position of shanxi xingdusi, I selected it as the research object. A large number of existing literature and modern central and local research findings, provided a source of information to this article. This research was from the historical and political geography and historical perspective of military geography. Aim at analysis the role of the shanxi xingdusi in the northern frontier protection. The main methods of this article:collecting and reference on historical documents and modern people's research results, on-the-spot investigation, graphical method and so on.Body is divided into five chapters:First chapter, the frontier of military geographical entity of Ming Dynasty in northern of Shanxi. This chapter include two parts:The first part introduce the shanxi's geographical distribution of the forces of the survey and Canyuan violence distribution of ming dynasty. Shanxi is in loess plateau, in its northern is the mongolian area, its east to west distance between the taihang mountains and the yellow river, it has the higher and military position. In the early of Ming Dynasty, there were too many armies of Canyuan resided. The second major write the reunification of the frontier process of north areas of shanxi. Second chapter, the settings of Shanxi xingdusi. This chapter include two parts:The first part introduce the setting of Datong duwei. For the unified the northern areas under the jurisdiction of the implementation, the Ming established Shanxi xingdusi. Before it was established, Datong and its northern areas managed by Datong duwei, later, Datong duwei renamed Shanxi xingdusi. So to introduce the Shanxi xingdusi duwei. The second part write the settings of Shanxi xingdusi, this part is primary of this chapter, it is divided into three time interval:Hongwu period, form Janwei to Yongle period, form Hongxi period to the later of Ming, to analysis the increase, move, change and the give up of Shanxi xingdusi. Third chapter, the precinct changes of Shanxi xingdusi and its influence factors. The increase and change of weisuo give rise to the precinct changes. This chapter include three parts: The first part introduce the precinct increase of Hongwu period. The second part introduce the precinct decrease of Yongle period and its stability of Hongxi period to the later of Ming. The third part introduce the influence factors. There three factors, the political situation of northern, the building of greatwall and the natural environment. Forth chapter, the relations of Shanxi xingdusi and Datongzhen. This chapter include two parts:The first part introduce the setting of Datongzhen and its position in northern frontier. Datongzhen mainly in charge of the military defences in Shanxi xingdusi, so it was the pivotal role of northern frontier. The second part introduce the relations of Shanxi xingdusi and Datongzhen. Their has interdependence exterior-interior relationships. Shanxi xingdusi mainly dominate and provide the army, Datongzhen Datongzhen mainly in charge of the military defences. Fifth chapter, the military reclaime and defence of Shanxi xingdusi. This chapter include two parts:The first part introduce the military reclaime of Shanxi xingdusi. It is divided into two time interval:the early period and the later period. The second part introduce the military defence of Shanxi xingdusi. It is divided into three time interval: form Hongwu to Xuande period, form Zhengtong to Jiajing period, form Longqing to later Ming. To introduce military reclaime and defence respectively, mainly because Shanxi xingdusi is a military administration, its function is to manage the army. But the function of Datongzhen is military defence.The conclusion to make a summary of this study, point out the research results,the shortage and the problem need to be solved deeply.
