Abstract/Summary:
In China, the English education in higher vocational education system is in a weak position. It is a big distance between the higher vocational education and the normal higher education not only from the input of government but also from the students'quantity, teaching force, teaching equipments and the acknowledgement of the society. The English level of many graduates from the higher vocational colleges can not be fit for the work requirements. Therefore, it is the problem which should be quickly solved to analyze the actualities of English studying for the students in higher vocational colleges and put forward some useful teaching strategies.Nowadays, the development of the higher vocational education is becoming more and more concerned not only by the government but by most of the normal persons as well.The higher vocational education is developing very fast, but the relevant researches are not so perfect. There are the researching meanings in my thesis:It could improve the teaching innovation of higher vocational education.It could make the whole educational system perfect. The significances in English teaching are the following: It is good for the English teachers to deeply understand the actualities and find out the proper and more effective teaching methods.It is also good for the students to self-evaluate and find out the ways to make their future studying goal clearer.The methods I adopted in my thesis involved questionnaires, interview and discussion, I have interviewed some teachers and students of Henan Judicial Police Vocational College. According to the statistics, I found out some of the reasons affected the students'English studying:1. The number of the students who want to receive higher vocational education is not so satisfactory2. The students'basic English knowledge in higher vocational college is rather poor3. The students'studying motive and interest is weak4. Most colleges are lack of enough English teachers.5. The teaching methods are short of variety.6. The teaching equipments are out of date and the multimedia is not widely used in teaching.7. The teaching courses and materials are not so suitable and short of characteristics of higher vocational education.Based on the reasons affected English learning and teaching, this thesis puts forward some specific teaching strategies which are supposed to be helpful to both teachers and students in higher vocational colleges.
