Dong Libo is a writer of great creativity and influence in contemporary Xinjiang literary world. Instead of the traditional descriptive method of historical narratives, Dong Libo, based on a multi-interpretation of human nature and feelings, brings the humane customs of western frontier into readers' focus and displays the complex human nature and particular sentiment in frontier. His novel series of "reclamation", as an artistic reflection of common people's living condition under a certain time and space, represent the writer's special experience of life and his deep contemplation of social reality.The introduction, starting from the current creative situation of contemporary Xinjiang literary world and Dong Libo's writing career, derives the theme of this thesis. In the main body of the thesis, based on a text analysis of Dong Libo's novels of "reclamation", taking the "reclamation" as a historical background and Xia Yedi as a certain narrative background, the author systematically makes a perceptual and theoretical interpretation of the various themes, female's self-awareness, and the local frontier writing of Dong Libo's novels. Firstly the author analyzes the interference of power discourse with daily life, individual desire's actual manipulation on living life, and the alienation of human nature caused by one's addiction to power and desire. The writer tries to discover different factors causing one's tragedy in life and reveal common people's embarrassed life reality based on the interrelationship between power discourse and individual desire of the people in power. Meanwhile the writer delineates the particular frontier human customs bred in the barren living condition and cruel social reality. In this way the writer accomplishes his expression of frontier human nature and sentiments in the end.Compared with other contemporary writers, Dong Libo focuses on female's fate in his novels. This thesis tries to interpret the various female characters in his novels. Based on the self-awareness and lack of female's self-consciousness, this paper employs feminist literary criticism to analyze the different social situations and fates between two kinds of female characters and presents the different fate schema of different females in Xia Yedi. Furthermore, this research displays the psychological process of female's spiritual awareness and lack of self-consciousness in view of humanitarianism and individualism. Also the author reveals the embarrassed situation and realistic obstacles faced by feminist emancipation under a great historical background. In this way the thesis restores the living reality of females under a certain time and space and displays the writer's particular and distinctive view of feminist emancipation and enlightenment of human nature.Xia Yedi is full of particular human customs and provides Dong Libo with a three- dimensional space of imagination and multi-dimensional reflection. It expresses the writer's aesthetic judgment and spiritual direction of western frontier, stresses the writer's precious individual creativity and experience of life, and embodies the writer's particular idealism and romanticism, and meanwhile it also presents the concrete difficulties faced by the writer on his later way of writing. The conclusion highlights the theme of this thesis again and points to the realistic significance and value of Dong Libo and his "reclamation" novels in view of both Chinese contemporary literature and literary history.
