Ryunosuke Akutagawa, born in March 1st 1892 (25th year of Meiji) in Tokyo, Japan。In 1916, Akutagawa Ryunosuke published his short story "Hana" in the "Sinsityo" magazine, which was highly praised by Soseki Natsume, thus successfully boarding on the stage of Japanese literature.Akutagawa's novel covers a wide range of field, involving religion, history, literary figures and so on. The novels derived from the works of classical literature have long attracted the attention of critics, such as"Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio","Sennin","Sutyu"and so on from Chinese classical literature as well as "Konjyaku Monogatari" and "Jikokuhen", "Hana" to name a few from Japanese classical word series. The"Ryu"analyzed in this article is also belong to these works.Novel "Ryu" published in 1919, belongs to the mid-Akutagawa literary works, drawing on classical Japanese words series "Uji syuimonogatari." Since the work was born, it was given a mixed critics, which could be regarded a controversial short story. This paper attempts compare the novel with orginal source material in order to analysis his creating style and further exploring his intention to write the novel.The article includes five parts:Preface: The motivation for this paper and the significance of this investigation. First chapter Invetigation of the author and the work"Ryu"Second chapter Comparison between work"Ryu"and the soucrce material as well as the exploration of the novel creating styleThird chapter Analyze the role of"Ryu"in the whole Akutagawaliterature based on second chapter, and together with"Ryu"image in other novels to explore the meanings of"Ryu"to the author.Conclusion :it can be concluded through the analysis above, that although"Ryu"is not unanimously affirmed by the academic community, it played a bridge role throughout the Akutagawa literature, from which a more complete understanding of Akutagawa literature can be obtained.
