In Qing Dynasty Soochow became the land famous for imperial examination. There were 26 people who came in first in the imperial examination,which means 22.8 percent of all the no.l schoolars of the dynasty. Among them there were 14 immigrants with 6 from Huizhou. The traditional study mostly focused on economic and social enviroment, family education etc, and neglected the factor of immigrants.This paper took Hong Family from Guiling for example.By invetigating the development of the family this paper discussed its family tradition which payed much attention on education for imperial examination. The tradition was in accordance with the main stream of culture tradition for schoolar of Soochow. By marriage the family associated the local elites and rapidly came into Soochow society until forming the scholar family. Through scholar family there were frequent interactions between Soochow and Huizhou.On one hand, the clan system of Huizhou were transplanted to Soochow. The establishment of ancestral temple, Yizhuang, clan organization mitigated the social cntradictions, stablised social order, which provided a good social enviroment for social economic development of Soochow.On the other hand, the cultural tradition of paying attention to education for imperial examnination of Soochow was introduced to Huizhou, which trengthened the family cultural education. Some of the commercial profits were took back hometown, buliding ancestral temple, compiling genealogy, seting YItian and Yizhuang, which further strengthed the awareness and system of clan. The interfere on succession of Hong Family to Soochow had influence on its development.
