"The Book of Songs"is not only the legacy of its literary significance, but more importantly is that it comes from the efforts of the early life of our ancestors, which were part of history. Reading "The Book of Songs", we can clearly feel the pure nature of people and great humanity. Till the Warring States period, the early Confucian thinkers came up with the thought of "benevolence".Either from the background of their lives, or from the contents of the Book of Songs which implied the thinking of "caring the livelihood", we can concluded that "The Book of Songs" and "benevolence" are bound to be related to each other. This article will explain the this proposition from the following four parts:Firstly, the "Book of Songs" was based on the music and rituals mainly made by the Duke of Zhou, and combined with the cultural essence of Xia and Shang Dynasty , embodying all aspects of Zhou Dynasty . later, after Confucius and other thinkers' study, research and teaching, the collection of "poems" gradually embarked on the track of Confucianism.Secondly , the "poems" containing "benevolence" in the "Book of Songs" can be broadly divided into two parts. Marriage is the first of all . Regardless of "Guanju" represented by "decency" in the marriage, or the wild spirit such as "Jiangzhongzi" from Lylics of Zheng. Conveying the wild spirit, they all stressed the importance of the search for real life.Besides, other poems expressed daily human relations from different angles, such as "Chang di" from the Book of Odes and "Kaifeng" from the lylics of Bei.They showed the essence of the brotherhood , filial affection and so on.Thirdly , the "Book of Songs" also reflects the desire to own a benevolent government. From the poems against the fact of separated couples and arbitrary policy , we can see that people from different classes have shown the hate for tyranny. The hate within them revealed the thirst for benevolence from the negative side.Fourthly, understanding thousands of years'classsic explanations, we have known more about the benevolence from the "Book of Songs".what's more, we can recognize the far-reaching influence on Chinese character from the contents of Book of Songs", as well as the leading position of "poetic education" in Chinese literature.
