The thesis is the first comprehensive study which describes the phonetic system of Pingle dialect. In the thesis, the phonetic system of Pingle dialect is compared with that of both the middle ancient Chinese language and Beijing hua, by the methods of Chinese Dialectology,Historical comparative Linguistics and Sociolinguistics.It includes six parts:Part 1,Preface,mainly introducing the geography and population covered by this dialect; and then,introduces the status of the dialect uses, the object,the time and the main materials of the research;and also introduces the general situation of the study of Qionglai dialect.Part 2,describes the phonetic system of Pingle dialect from three aspects of initials,finals and tones,and gives the description of their combination rules.Moreover, the homophone table is listed as well. Part 3,introduces initial system and its historic evolvement;it also gives the introduction of the evolvement of the initial system of Pingle dialect by comparing it with the initial system of the ancient rhythm book'Guang Yun'and'Beijing hua'.Part 4,describes the final system and its historic evolvement.Besides,it also introduces the evolvement of the final system of Pingle dialect by comparing it with'Guang Yun'and'Beijing hua'.Part 5,describes the tonic system of Pingle dialect and its historic evolvement.Part 6,summarizes the differences between old phonetic system and the new one of Pingle dialect by comparing their initials,finals and tones.The main characteristics of the phonetic system of Pingle dialect are as follows:Ⅰ,Pingle dialect has 20 initials,without'n'and't? t?h ? ?'.All of the initials in are voicelessed.Voiced initials in Pingle dialect had all disappeared.The primary thread is:'Ping'initials of the voiced initials aspirates and'Ze'initials are non-aspirated.The sharp initials and the round initials are not distincted in Pingle dialect,the'Zhi,Zhuang,Zhang'groups have merged with the 'Jing'group.The'Ying,Yun,Yi'groups have almost merged with each other.Under certain circumstances,the initials'Xiao,Xia'will mixed with'Fei,Fu,Feng'.Ⅱ,Pingle dialect has 40 finals without [i?] and [??].The yang-sheng rhymes finals [–m] tail change into [–n] or [-?] tails.The ru-sheng rhymes final tails[–p?–t–k] all disappeared.The middle ancient yang-sheng rhymes finals,yin-sheng rhymes finals and the ru-sheng rhymes finals , to some extent, are merged or mixed in pronunciation in their own internal.Ⅲ,There are five types of tones in Pingle dialect: the first tone55, the second tone21,the third tone42,the fourth tone214,the fifth tone 24.
