The oboe has the longest history among all the western wind instruments.Because of its very complex mechanism, the oboe's fingering is usually thought to be the most difficult in woodwind instruments. The oboe didn' t have its key system when it was born, and its key system experienced a long evolution progress.Two-key and three-key system appeared in the 17th century, and the oboe came into mechanical time in the 19th century.Nowadays, the conservatory system has been widely accepted by most executants, which provides a wider space for the performance of oboe and diversifies its musical expressional ways. This paper focuses on the historical and contemporary conditions of the key system, and I believe this will help the learners of oboe a lot.
