The most elementary parts of speech in a language are nouns and verbs, which rely on each other mutually to form a sentence. Conversion between nouns and verbs can always be found in the language while the nominalization of verbs is an easy and feasible way for word formation. Morphological changes, mainly the inflexion of verbs, are necessary for the nominalization of verbs in Japanese. For instance, the conversion from the conjunctive form of the verb"終わる"into the noun"終わり"is a common phenomenon and this kind of words are called conjunctive nouns. In this paper, the classification, statistics and summarization of conjunctive nouns for pure verbs and compound verbs in Japanese are carried out from a point view of meaning category. Also the restriction elements for the derivation of conjunctive nouns from verb nominalization are analyzed in depth from the aspects of syllable, verb tense and the transitive and intransitive properties of verbs.
