The Wei and Jin dynasties are eras with frequent regime changes and culture conflicts. And Ji Kang exerted a great influence on the times. From the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Southern Dynasties, emperors and ministers were all extremely luxurious, corrupt and fatuous. For the loss of social regulations and social morality, different people put out different ways to resolve it. Among them, the thought of overstepping the Confucian ethical standards and following nature was put out by Ji Kang. The thought of overstepping the Confucian ethical standards and following nature only can be put out in the special times of the Wei and Jin dynasties. Facing to the frequent regime changes and ridiculous about the actual meaning of the name and the problem.Ji Kang made a try for contemporary literati to search for ways to improve society, realize themselves and show themselves. Of course, the cost was so dear that Ji Kang stimulated the development of the times at the cost of his life.Theoretically, Ji Kang carried forward Wang Bi's ideas about the Confucian ethical standards deriving from nature. According to grasp the main aspects of the neglect of the secondary aspects of,nature was ahead of the Confucian ethical standards, so it was in logic. When there was a contradiction between them, overstepping the Confucian ethical standards and following nature was a must.In the real life, Ji Kang did not been involved in politics eventually. It was decided by his realistic status. He couldn't demonstrate politics by culture like Dong Zhongshu andliving atZhengshiperiod of intellectuals. What he could do was to show and realize himself by culture critically. The passage, based on other people's theory, points out that"the Confucian ethical standards"mean exterior restraint while"nature" means interior belief. The thought put out by Ji Kang was to overstep the exterior disguised Confucian ethical standards of the Wei and Jin dynasties and guide behavior by interior traditional belief, which also means gone with your heart. However, the flaw of his thought was vague in his understanding of the "heart". On the one hand, he asked to measure the behavior which was good or not good by interior moral motivation; on the other hand, he did not have definite regulations of the interior moral motivation, but only described it by the ambiguous word "and". It was the reason why his historical view dropped behind. Since he was unable to make his dreams come true in reality, he had to do something in the subject about health.Ji Kang's achievement was in his rethought of that time. He put forward methods to improve from inside to outside. While in the inside improvement, he lacked enough acquaintance with interior nature so that his theory did not transcend personality fostered. However, it is just the flaw of his theory that helps other people to make much progress in academy. After all, the Buddhism and the neo-Confucianism afterwards resolved the question preferably.
