Dan Dang is a famous artist,calligrapher,poet and monk of Ming dynasty,whose painting style is unique in the painting sphere of his age.However,people know little about such an extraordinary artist, and ancient books keep little records about him.Consequently,he had been ignored in the 300 years after his death.But for a real artist, history will always realize his value,The author of this paper holds that the paintings of Dan Dang is as good as those of the Four Monks of early Qing dynasty,and his influence and contribution to China art history should be reevaluated.This paper focuses on Dan Dang's painting-discussing poets and artworks,explores the reasons of his painting style,themes of his artworks in depth.Through comparison of features of Dan Dang's artworks and those of the Four Monks,the author states his own point of view.The study reveals why Dan Dang's unique painting style had almost disappeared after his death.It is not only because he lived in the marginal area of the country,but also because ordinary people could hardly understand the coldness and leisure in his works.Also,Dan Dang's is the first person who invites Buddhism elements into painting,and his style has some continuity and consistency with those of the Four Monks.The author of this paper hopes that this comparison study will have some practical meaning to contemporary study and innovation to Chinese paintings. |
