History of human visual image reflects the development of Man's exploring external world with eyes and reproducing the real life pursuing resemblance thereto.Influenced by Cartesian Tradition in contemporary Western philosophy,i.e., to explore the world in a scientific,impartial,rational manner,that is not subject to passion or subjective sensation of the observers,the history of images is in a matter of fact a history of technology.If art history is focused on study of visual image,then the issue of truthfulness of "images" bears on relationship between visual reproduction and mechanical technologies.However,subject-crossing nature of visual culture determines diversification of perspectives and conclusions therein. The evolution of image should be attributed to a combination of factors.In context of "Image Era" when the world is coded into images(also called "picture-reading time"),the article makes studies on features of images which is prevalently dominated by photos and digitalized virtual pictures,and introduces its evolution,from the perspective of visual culture study,and "image awareness" in the sense of phenomenology.The article also makes in-depth analysis on the phenomenon that "truthfulness" of image will finally conceal,exhaust and displace "truthfulness" of reality,in connection with "single dimension" nature of man of industry society ideology,as well as "single dimension" of "mirage society" in Consumption Age,verified by a number of conceptions in realm of sociology,psychology,and lansign,thereby hopefully leading to questioning and deliberation of "truthfulness" presented by photos and digital S i mu I acr urns.
