Gauguin's spoken language in his correspondence and monologue in the image reflect his spirit. Perhaps it is not the key question whether he is Orientalist or nor, what is important is that the "Orient" deeply affected his life and creative process, and "orient"—the external object stimulated Gauguin to introspect and experience. This article aims to treat Gauguin as a narrator. In fact, one kind of empirical mode deeply hides in some subject and the image when he creates. The "reality" of his image always reorganized and selected, so if this pattern can be found ,the way of viewing t "reality" can be understood. This article is to analyze and prove this kind of pattern through Gauguin's accounts as well as his works. This article is divided into three parts: First, chapter land chapter 2 introduce the era background when Gauguin lived. The popularity of Orientalism once again in France in 19th century was important; Next, in the third chapter ,the author is going to reveal Gauguin's selection and imagery about Tahiti's narration such ways as image analysis, and analyze the discourse mode of "Orientalism"hidden in his works; Finally, the relationship between Gauguin and Orientalisms will be discussed on the basis of the above elaboration. The conclusion is that, there really exists some relationship between Gauguin and Orientalisms ,such as imagination and fictionalizes. And he once belonged to (or was restrained by) the Orientalism tradition. But what is different is that Gauguin has surmounted this tradition finally, thus achieving freedom. In this sense, the orient acting as a stimulation factor guiding Gauguin's tremendous changes. However it is full of swinging, contradictory and even compromises in the process. This kind of individual contradiction is precisely the echoing of profound contradiction and ambiguous in forming of modernity.
