In the 20th centry's, Congwen Shen and Pingwa Jia both had an important and unique impact on the Chinese local literature. The version of "local complex" is one of the cultural phenomenon that determines the concept of literature, the options of creation and the pursuit of artistic realm. This dissertation is based on an outline of local complex, carding the the flow of the Chinese local literature of the twentieth century and the origin and connotation of such complex, discussing and generalizing the causes of local complex that listed in the works of two authors. The local complex Congwen Shen and Pingwa Jia presented is shown in two patterns in this text, the chanting for glorious land and the resistance from modern metropolitan areas. They praised the beauty and magic of the geographical landscapes, the healthy and pure noble of their moral character. Yet they are the marginal persons who wonder around in cities, constantly showing the alienation and rejection of metropolitan civilization. The only difference between them is that Congwen Shen confronted metro civilization by returning to the original civilization while Pingwa Jia tries to run from the mainstream ideology, freeing himself from the times mainstream, and creating his own art world. The difference between their works stated the unique yet abundant aesthetic implication and spiritual values. The authors showed their preferences to Xiangxi and ShangZhou, devoting concerns and evaluations to the cultural psychology of minorities and the prospects of civilization of humankind. Congwen Shen and Pingwa Jia are both acting like the successor of the traditional value of Chinese arts who open up to modern world yet resist and criticize the metro civilization. Their determination is not the feudal ethics but the sounding cultural and moral orders. This is the very non-contradiction expertise between past and present, domestic and overseas, religious and themes, the consciences and responsibilities any distinguishing authors should bear.
