In this dissertation, an analysis was done on Wang Xiaoshuai's films in a comprehensive and systematic way in three parts, which is also aimed to show the distinctive, unique and relatively stable personal style of Wang Xiaoshuai as an auctorial director. The first part researches into the theme of growth which is widely referred at Wang Xiaoshuai's films from culture field. And this part is divided into three periods as facing the reality, accepting the reality and digestion the reality by the process of characters' growing up. Those three periods are the process of continuing evolution, at the same time, they are three independent parts of the theme of Wang Xiaoshuai's films. The second part analyses how Wang Xiaoshuai used the language of film at the sight of film art. Figure out how the form efficiently serves for the theme and the story of the films, by researching the slow and subtle style, the restrained and calm motion of camera and plenty sub-images. The last part shows that Wang Xiaoshuai is an outstanding Chinese auctorial director, simultaneously, he is challenged by film art, the domestic film system and market. He tried really hard to be back to the domestic film system and theatres from overseas film festivals. During the insistence of personal style and the limited compromise of the domestic film system, Wang Xiaoshuai never gave up the promotion of his films. But the strong and stable personal style confined Wang Xiaoshuai that he could not offer more different stuff for the national style of Chinese films. Even though, his explore of the possibilities of film art still impressed us. As for the future development, we should wait and see.
