On The Value Of Ur Class Concept

As a herald of value theory, Wilbur Marshall Urban had actualized the transformation from ontology to epistemology in the field of philosophy of value in the English world. During the process of transformation, the problem of "valuation" had gained tremendous emphasis which impelled Urban to establish a science of value, in which he endeavoured to conciliate the contradiction between subjectivity and objectivity of value. He for the first time proposed that value is the funded affective-volitional meaning of the object for the subject, using psychological (genetic) method in analyzing this definition in a positivist way. After analyzing the nature of feeling and will, he confirmed that feeling is the determinative factor of value and expanded the criteria of feeling of value to three kinds of presupposition of reality which are denominated as presumption, assumption and judgment. Meanwhile, by the reference of feeling of value to reality, he validated the objectivity of value. Though the key point and final target is valuation and its laws, what forms the basis of his three valuation laws is the conception of value which also characterizes his theory of value as one that tries hard to conciliate subjectivity and objectivity of value.
