Mahfouz's Narrative Art Of The Novel

This dissertation,based upon narrative theory,studies the narrative art of Naguib Mahafouz's novels with a focus on its whole narrative feature, narrative subject,narrative structure,narrative essence.It examines Mahafouz's irreplaceable contribution to the development of the novel in the way that he created narrate art.It is divided into four chapters. The whole narrative feature of Mahafouz's novel is discussed in Chapter One.In terms of narratation,there are two features in Mahafouz's novel:emphasizing the story and emphasizing how to tell the story.Chapter Two centers on narrative subject in mahafouz's novel.The narrative arrangement and narrative subject are divided in the novel.The narrator show his or her existence in the way of commenting on the content and intervening in the form.There are many complicated characterizations in the cubic focalization system,such as multi-perspective,the transformation of perspective,crossing the perspective.Chapter Three focuses upon narrative structure in Mahafouz's novel.Analyzing it from the plot,Mahafouz's novel be arranged which centers on the figure and story.Intertexuality and transtextuality can be found in the text strcture of Mahafouz's novel,which would help us analyze his works in whole.Mahafouz's novel also have the characterization of transtyle in the structure of style.Chapter Four focuses on the narrative essence in Mahafouz's novel.Mahafouz's works not only reflect the historic authenticity but prophecy the history,which is a narrative discourse definded between historic narrative and fictitous narrative.There are complicated characteristic in the meaning of language and the function of narrative discourse.
