On The Theory Of Love In The Fromm Ethics

The issue about love is rarely discussed further in the Chinese history of thought. Love, however, is of great significance in the human community so that the thesis is based on appreciating "The Art of Loving", a work from Erich Fromm. It analyzes Erich Fromm's theory of love and researches the problem and relationship among faith of love, existence of freedom and building of harmonious society to reveal the theory proposed by Erich Fromm that "love" focuses on "people" closely for the purpose of saving humanity and helping people achieve self-improvement.The author in the thesis uses the analyzing method of philosophy, placing the issue of love ahead of the philosophy, thereby facilitating people to understand and learn about the human nature, to be aware of the existence of a harmonious society, and further promote the consciousness and establishment of the principle of freedom. Owing to this, the article emphasizes on three issues, which is why people need love, what is love, and how to get the true sense of love. This thesis is accordingly divided into three parts: demonstrating that love is the response to the mankind's survival; defining the concept of love and analyzing the love's ideological factors and theoretical foundation explained by Erich Fromm and discussing how to get true love from the theory and practice, including the relationship between love and faith. The three parts are based on Fromm's love of art theory, combining questions and answers; love and human nature with action and belief and finally coming to a conclusion that love is indispensible for human survival and human nature will continuously sublimate and transcend in the theory of love and practice, just as the rational belief will eventually become the essential basis of the objective world, and finally become a common phenomenon in the society. This conclusion reveals Fromm's seemingly classifying statement about love. What's more, it in practice establish an increasingly improving sequence and the sequence shows the gradually improving sublimation of human nature in the love's education and practice, which is continuously outperforming in the in human's life.
