"A Dream in Red Mansions" comes into being on the middle period Qing dynasty, colloquialization degree has been higher and report language appearance basically, it provides us large amount of value language material to study the language . This article is a study of grammar of special literature about modern Chinese. It thoroughly describes and analyzes preposition of "A Dream in Red Mansions". We comprehensively use the methods of synchronic description and diachronic comparison, of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, of systematical study and individual analysis. We comprehensively compare the language facts of ancient Chinese, contemporary Chinese dialects and contemporary Chinese common speech.This article mainly includes five chapters besides the preface and conclusion. The preface mainly narrated the research value, the research technique as well as the language materials origin and so on. The firs chapter is about the preposition research condition, the preposition appraisal standard, and definite the preposition as well as classification . The second chapter mainly describe the preposition by different classification. First, the preposition divides into the tone preposition and the duplicate sound preposition. The tone preposition according to its semantic role, carries on the quantitative analysis and the qualitative analysis in turn to 5 big kind of 58 tone preposition, and 27 duplicate sound preposition. The third chapter is about syntax, we analyzes the preposition phrase internal structure, exterior function, the syntax distribution, the antithetical couplet -like choice. The forth chapter analyze the preposition from pragmatics angle and discuss the problem of topic of conversation mark function , obvious focal point function , language sheet link up function phenomenon . The fifth chapter examines the preposition from diachronic angle. The last is the conclusion that on the analytical basis summarize the preposition and the preposition phrase characteristic in "A Dream in Red Mansions".
