In the 1980s a batch of veteran writers created large amount of reminiscent proses with explicit awareness and rational spirit to record the historical events. These proses were vibrated with reconsideration of the Great Cultural Revolution and the New Enlightenment. Their works were characterized by the constant intellectual outlook, which reflects strong humanism during thefriendly-but-not-at-the-expense-of-principles interaction with the mainstream ideology. Emancipation of the mind was their favorite slogan apparently, or even more than that, certain typical statement of mainstream ideology were employed strategically by these writers. But their tenacious persistence in looking back into history instead of looking forward uncovered their true intention. However, they avoided direct contact with the mainstream ideology and stood aloof from the debate over liberal arts and ideology. Meanwhile the constant political standpoint made it possible for them to express themselves fully in their writings. These veteran writers presented the tragically narrated events in a bitter-and -sweet way. The implied serious criticism over various values, as well as perception into history and unyielding personality, were presented in a fascinating comedic manner. The union of comedic depiction and stunning personality relieved the great pain which was hidden in the bottom of people's heart. Disposing of the sentiment filled in traditional literary writings, the reminiscent proses were also characterized by simplification, implicitly and narrating with passion. These proses sound sad but not overly distressing, which was quite unique in modern literature. The significance of reminiscent proses in modern literature history is evidently revealed by the veteran writers' spontaneous and profound inheritance of the May 4th Movement tradition. And the destruction of authority in propaganda is also of great importance in literature. Throughout the 1980s, only the veteran writers stand out in knowing and observing the May 4th Movement tradition with loyalty.
