Modern Chinese "x Is" The Same Language Structure

This paper mainly researches on a special format called tautology structure in Mandarin, which frequently appear in mandarin, and has its own distinctive features. We selected a typical tautology structure"X shi X"as prime object, took deep and also dedicate analysis on it from syntactic attributes,literal meaning,implicit meaning, and format comparison .Monomial tautology has flexible locations in sentences, but cannot exist by itself for the context dependence. Binomial tautology can be divided into contrast items and coordinate item according to inner relationships, the former with compact structure would be simplified into singular item in oral context, the latter with loose structure cannot have any simplification through association triggering. Polynomial tautology displays coordinate relations inside, and by listing the coordinate items get stress. The joint relationship between tautology clauses and other clauses in tautology structure included complex sentences have three patterns, that is adversative relation, cause-effect relation, and parataxis.In comon meanings of"X shi X", while X is substantive component, the fore X possesses signification meanings, and the latter X has attribution meanings,while X is predicative, the fore X also has signification meanings, and the latter X has statement meanings. The expansion parts play great role in the comprehension of tautology structure, that is, extending parts prior to"shi"are mainly acted by adverbs, which bring fuctions of stress, restriction and corelation. The back X's extension major profiles the attribution meanings communacators want to express. These above parts complete with tautology structure's inter-item senmantic relations, inter-clause semantic relations constitute tautology structure's literal meaningAll tautology structures takes with some conversational meanings, which is produced when the talkers intended break conversation rules, concrete restriction factors to form conversational meanings can be classified into three kinds, the communication context, the conversational meanings'stipulation degree, and the literal meanings, which have two kinds of functions, restriction and guiding. We can then ascertain tautology structure's conversational meanings in terms of above factors and definite functions they generate. Additionally, the application of tautology structure strengthens the language expression effect, which is to add to stress, to increase courtesy, and to lead more description character.We still have a comparison between"X shi X"and"X gui X". On the formal constitution,"X shi X"can own its expansion expressions, while"X gui X"cannot. Around the semantic aspect,and still, the tautology component X is different,the middle component"shi / gui"produce discrepancies in deep meanings, which are mainly the monomial semantic discrepancies of the two tautology structures.
