Modern Chinese Adverbs Overlap

The reduplicated form is an important grammar means in Chinese language, and the reduplicated form of adverbs is one of the importance categories in the system of reduplicated forms. But the focus on the reduplicated form of adverbs is less than the reduplicated form of adjective and verbs. This dissertation mainly focuses on the study of reduplicated form of adverbs. Besides the forewords and the conclusion, it is divided into four chapters.Chapter one analyzes the property, scope and classification of the reduplicated form of adverbs, the reduplicated form of adverbs in not the same as reduplicative adverbs, and the grammar reduplication is different from the pragmatic reduplication. About 84 adverbs can be reduplicated, which account for 6.47% of the whole adverb reduplication system. Some adverb reduplication is not only adverb, but also is noun, verb, adjective and measure word. And then we classified this 84 adverb reduplication.Chapter two emphatically discusses the adverb reduplication with the primary form of monosyllabic adverbs. The monosyllabic adverb is the main part of the reduplicated form of adverbs, about 72.6% of the whole adverb reduplication system. Firstly, we divided monosyllabic adverb reduplication into typical members and atypical members. Then we analyze the differences in syntactic functions between reduplicated form of adverbs and primary form of adverbs, and also analyze the changing of semantic functions and difference of pragmatic function after reduplication.Chapter three studies the adverb reduplication with the primary form of double-syllabic adverbs, which is similar with the monosyllabic adverbs reduplication. The number of double-syllabic adverbs reduplication is much less than the monosyllabic adverbs reduplication. After the analysis, we can understand the reason is that the double-syllabic adverbs reduplication is subjected to the restriction of format. Majority double-syllabic adverbs reduplication can use the attachment of suffix, Minority double-syllabic adverbs reduplication can be used as complement. The core meaning of double-syllabic adverbs reduplication is the increase of quantification and the quantification is the Subjective quantification and the ambiguous quantification. Lastly, AAB reduplication is the non- typical model reduplication in Chinese language.Chapter four analyzes the historical evolution of the reduplicated form of adverbs. In order to reflect the basic historical frame of adverbs reduplication, we discuss its appearance, evolution, Mature and prosperous. The adverbs reduplication firstly appeared in Qin dynasty and further developed in modern Chinese, which is matched with the developing trend of Chinese double-syllabic. We describe the substitution between new adverbs reduplication and old adverbs reduplication. Then we reveal the reasons of its replacement. At last, there are some difference between modern adverbs reduplication and historical adverbs reduplication.Through the research, we hope we can know the scope and classification;the similarities and the personality; the origin and development of the adverbs reduplication, and supplement and perfect the whole system of reduplication of modern Chinese.
