In the history of Chinese piano art, the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution is a special period. For some historical reason, the creations of Chinese piano music stepped into a narrow space. During the ten years of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, there was only one form of music creation, adaptation. However, there were still many musicians trying to develop in this predicament. They created a lot of excellent piano adaptations, among which the ones adapted from traditional instrumental music are the most outstanding.This article analyzes the piano adaptations and their original Chinese traditional instrumental music versions, trying to explore the features of this form of artistic creation, the lineage from traditional music culture, and its influences on latter works, and to explore the forming reason, creative style and existence meaning of this kind of adaptations, which ultimately aims at carrying on the preliminary exploration into the piano music works adapted from Chinese traditional instrumental music during that period and revealing their values and contributions to the development of piano music in China.
