The Criticism And Defense Of Western Popular Culture

With the development of modernization and marketing economy, the popular culture like movie, TV, popular publication, internet novel and etc is booming. Its prosperity and craziness lead to violent debate in society, especially in the cultural area. Under such circumstances, somebody is happy and somebody is annoyed. No matter how big their disputes are and whether they like it or not, such a booming cultural phenomenon is worth reflecting.With the booming popular culture, the research on it is developing more and more quickly in China. During this process, theories in the research on western public culture are the origination of the research in China. A clear understanding of western popular culture does well to the research on popular culture in China. In this essay, the main task is to make clear the western popular culture thoroughly. First of all, I will show the history of western popular culture in a macroscopical respect. Next, I will explain the popular culture in "public", "culture", "popular culture". In the last two chapters, I will express criticism and defence in details and summarize the research of western theorist, in order to show the focus on the debate of treating popular culture in a microcosmic respect.
