Mifu- a great master in fine art field ,was regarded as landmark of the art of landscape painting who played multi-roles of painter, calligraphist, connoisseur and so on, was not recorded on the authoritized art book which shows most important painters at that time. Was he considered as painter? Why can't we see even one piece of his masterpiece nowadays? This article tries to answer these questions through focusing on the environment Mifu endeavor, that is, the article tries to exclude the influence of related books and place him in real background of Song Dynasty.This article tries to explain those questions through the analysis below: 1,his capability of painting;2,the contrast of the amount of his original work and reproduced work;3,his attitude towards calligraphy and painting and the contrast of his painting style and the academic style at that time. Through these analysis, we can draw a conclusion that as a pioneer, Mifu's style went ahead of his contemporary so as to his style was denied at that time. He was considered only as a calligraphist who also likes painting.The article finally discusses the metamorphosis of his role from a calligraphist to a painter. In other words, the background of the birth for his role-painter.
