The hot point of Chinese contemporary art research is the comparative research on eastern and western arts and cultures .Either senicrs'academic thinking and creative convergence on eastern and western arts and cultures since the 20th century under the background of severe collision between eastern and western cultures, or carrying forward the spirit of the thousand-year-long Chinese culture to the world, is all connected with comparative research. Eastern Dong qichang and western Nicolas Poussinsong, emeraging almost at the same time Dong qichang ring the late 16th century and the early 17th century , are all marvellous artists. Although they have different cultural backgrounds,different aesthetic trends ,and choose different materials,different artistic styles,they still Nicolas Poussinrsue the same cultural spirits. The spirits are the everlasting haemonious beauty and extreme care about humans and the whole society. The two spirits are also the quintessence of the eastern and western classic arts and cultures.Systematically,this thesis includes three parts named Chapter One,Chapter Two, and Chapter Three.Chapter One Inheritence ,screening and OverstepingSection One The Era Background of Dong qichang & Nicolas Poussin their contribution to art.WenRenHua,the Chinese classic painting,is formed in the period of Ming and Dong qichang,both as a scholar-official and an artist ,blends the spirits of confusianism, Buddhism and Taoism, introDong qichang ces Dhyana, poems,classics into his paintings, sets up the theony of sects in north and establishes the systematical ideological system on painting, which carries Chinese traditional Wen Ren Hua into a new stage. Inheriting the art models of ancient agreece, discarding the intense emotion in baroque art but absorbing the brings Frenchpaintings into classic era.The Establishment of Dong qichang's and Dong qichang's Painting Modes.With great achievements which attract worldwide attention, the two great artists all have made great contribution to their classic arts in respective eras. Dong qichang ring the process of inheritence, screening and overstepping,they established the classic harmonious aesthetic modes both superficially and essencially, and he finally made painting art tend to overstep natural creatures and gained the essence of liveings. The difference in creation beliefs ,language forms ,aesthestic tastes, which is reflected in their arts'characteristices and systems of theory, respresents the different eastern and westem features of cultural aesthetic spirit and the different cultural survival circumstances. Chapter Two Value Trend and Artistic Features of Dong qichang and Dong qichang's Paintings.Section One. The Contents of Artistic Works-the Persuit of Humanism.Choosing mountains and waters as the topic of his paintings and describing world and nature with plain black and white. Dong qichang shows us the magnificence and forgiveness of nature, which removes the pressure of realistic politics and reflects the of humans and all creatures in the universe. On the contrany, Nicolas Poussin always chooses history ,mayths and religion as his topics, and blends the narrative nature of historical paintings with the visual nature of landscape paintings, which shows his extreme care about humans and the whole society. Through choosing diferent materials, they show us respective cultural beliefs which overstep the contradition between temporareness and permanet, between limitation and boundlessness, achieve harmonious unite of human nature and all universal creatures containing plentiful spirits of humanism.Section Two. The Formal Language of Artistic Works-Plain View on Clours.Both Dong qichang and Nicolas Poussin exclude gorgeous and flashy colours from the formal language of artistic works. Using pen and ink to express emotions is viewed as the first gist by Dong qichang. He aims to make paintings be alike nature in spirit but not in appearlistically and he also wants to the special state of a painting. Nicolas Poussin deals with images idealistically and makes his paintings get harmony and perfection on the basic of his experience and the rules of light and shade.Section Three The Harmony between Form and Content—the Quiet between Materials and pictures.Choosing senes making ingeniously Dong qichang and Nicolas Poussin establish a peaceful atmosphere of postrol poems and achieve a tranquil state. When drawing mabntains and waters on his paintings Dong qichang always grasps the moving mature of them overcoming the wmitation of the realistic space and describing objective scene subjectively which can give viewers boundess speace perceptionObserving the principle of seeing though focal point make use of tableau space,Nicolas Poussin makes the main objects in painting obvious and steady and fouses on the sequence and structure of the painting ,which gwes viewers space has become a steady instantaneity of time.Chapter 3 The Cultural Implication and Aesthetic Connolation of Dong qichang and Nicolas Poussin's Paintings .Section 1 Poetic Quality and Rationality- Harmonious Aesthelic Ideal viewers can not judge D&P's paintings on artistry level become their paintings are not only objects,they have got poetic emotions and rational connotation Influnced by the thing mode of metapor and the asethetic ideal D&P use their paintings to show plentiful poetic emotions and harmonous ration ality which achieves the wnite of emption and rationality under the standard of classicism.Section 2. The Mergence of Mentality and Innate Laws of Things Harmaonious Aesthetic Connotation. Dong qichang and Nicolas Poussin'sarts still can achieve harmony and unite while blending a lot of contradictions together, such as display and reappearence, ideal and reality, sense and sensibility. Their artistic works express artists' care about humans and mentality ofarts, and shows their exploration about the nature of mentality. After being looked at, analyzed and comprehended paintings achieve the state of feeling and setting freely, which advance his creation more natural and objective, and also achieving the mergence of hearts and arts, harmony of hearts and objects.Section 3. Harmony between Humans and Harmony between Humans and Gods -harmonious Trend of Culture. Influnced by Chinese traditional thinking model Heaveh and man are onebased on Confusious. Donf uses Buddhism as a tool to overstep senvors and gives expression to Taoism. However, Nicolas Poussin is affected by the thinking model "Subjective and Objective Seperated",and he blends the Renaissance myths in westem traditions, religions and Humanism appeared in together. Both their works are not merely about specific images, they reflects the artists extreme care about humans and the whole society.Conclusion: Generalize the main idea ,the writing meaning and the creative points in this thesis .besides this ,shortcomings and the contents needs to the profoundly improved have pointed out.
