At present, in the academy field,'What is Buddhist Apocrypha'is still in argument. The purpose of this dissertation is to discuss the origin of Chinese Buddhist apocrypha's distinguishing standard by the means of researching Dao-an's standards, who was a monk in East Jin Dynasty. The article is composed of three chapters:Partâ… Researching Dao-an's understanding of sutra mainly by"Dao-an Lu"and his existing articles, we can recognize that he did not understand the sutra according to the idea of Indian Buddhist, but think most translation sutra as real sutra , which is different from Indian Buddhist.Partâ…¡Principally taking advantage of"Dao-an Lu", we get Dao-an's three standards of distinguishing Buddhist apocrypha. The first one is whether the apocrypha was translated from other language. The second one is comparing it with translated sutra. The third one is the capability of one's own Buddhist level. And then, I analysed his standards by researching the situation of how later sutra catalogues marked the apocrypha justified by him. So I consider that we should admit that his three standards are valuable , although they have some shortcomings.Partâ…¢Researching the theories of distinguishing Buddhist apocrypha of later sutra catalogues as well as comparing them with Dao-an's, I discover that they didn't put forward new theories after Dao-an, just kept on and deepen Dao-an's theories. Thus the deep and long-lasting influence of his theories can be seen.By researching Dao-an's theories of distinguishing Buddhist apocrypha we get to know the standards of distinguishing Buddhist apocrypha in early Chinese Buddhist, and know that"translated or not"is the main standard of distinguishing Buddhist sutra in early Chinese Buddhist. |
