Samuel Barber is one of the most important composers in American in 20th century. His five piano solo works all belonged to the late period of his creation. Therefore, it can basically reflect Barber's mature period style of creation and the technique characteristic.This article attempts through to his harmony's concrete research for the representative five piano solo works, is for the purpose of the dialysis of Barber's creation occupying in the complex changeable each kind of music style and the school in 20th century. we want investigate how he combined the modern composing music technique with the " tradition" tonality harmony and structure and how he hanged the specialized music, the pop music, the jazz and the American nationality music unifies in together. From all above, we could study how he forms the noble magnificent creation style which gracefully expresses feelings. From on more generalized understood that, is through to Barber's solo piano works'analysis, comprehensively learnt his achievement as a bridge between "the tradition" and "the modern age", how did Barber carries on to the works blends together, links up, to this comes perspective the locus of the harmony application of"professional"music (according to the composer writing in traditional way) from the tradition to the modern age in 20th century American. Thus gives the certain inspiration for our today music creation from aside.
